BJD to gherao Odisha Assembly tomorrow

The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has decided to gherao the Odisha Assembly tomorrow in protest against the state BJP government’s alleged curtailment of powers vested in people’s representatives under the Panchayati Raj system.

Bhubaneswar: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has decided to gherao the Odisha Assembly tomorrow in protest against the state BJP government’s alleged curtailment of powers vested in people’s representatives under the Panchayati Raj system.

As announced by the conch party, thousands of party workers along with their leaders will gather at the Lower PMG in Bhubaneswar tomorrow and gherao the State Assembly. Hundreds of public representatives including Zilla Parishad chairpersons, block chairpersons, sarpanchs, and ward members from across the state also are scheduled to join the demonstration.

As decided by the BJD, thousands of the party workers and leaders along with the local representatives will gherao the State Assembly from outside, the party MLAs protest inside the state assembly.

The conch party alleged that the saffron party government has curtailed the powers of public representatives in the three-tier Panchayati Raj system of the state and given more powers to the officers by violating the Orissa Panchayat Samiti Act.

The conch party also claimed that the state government has badly failed to serve the people and no developmental work is being done anywhere in the state and wherever the works are done the state government issues circulars to appease the BJP workers.
