Bhubaneswar: TPCODL EE nabbed by Odisha Vigilance while taking bribe of Rs 20 thousand, search underway
Cash of Rs. 9.53 lakhs unearthed during house searches and seized.
Bhubaneswar: Yesterday late night, Tusharkant Ray, Executive Engineer (Quality), Circle-I, TPCODL, Bhubaneswar has been apprehended by Odisha Vigilance while demanding and taking bribe of Rs.20,000. He was taking the bribe from an electrical Contractor (Complainant) for giving final inspection report in his favour for supply of electricity to the transformer of an Apartment Building installed by the complainant for the last two months.
As per the information received, the complainant had been requesting the Executive Engineer for furnishing above report to enable him to get payment against his bill. But, Ray demanded bribe Rs.20,000 to furnish the report. Finding no other way, the complainant approached the Vigilance authorities about the matter.
Following this, a team of Odisha Vigilance nabbed Ray, the EE yesterday late night, while taking bribe Rs.20,000 from the complainant.
The accused called the complainant to his residence. On arrival, he took him out to a park outside his house. There he asked him to hand over the cash, which was then seized by the alert Vigilance team watching his movements. The entire tainted bribe money Rs.20,000/- has been recovered from the exclusive possession of accused Ray, EE and seized.
Following the successful trap, simultaneous searches were carried out at 3 locations associated with Ray from DA angle.
During searches that continued till early morning, cash of Rs.9,53,200/- unearthed from his residence and seized.
In this connection, Bhubaneswar Vigilance P.S. Case No. 21 dt. 24.09.2025 U/s 7 PC (Amendment) Act, 2018 has been registered. Investigation is in progress against accused Ray, EE.
