Berhampur: Woman, daughter and infant grandson drown in river and die, granddaughter critical

Berhampur: In a tragic incident a woman, her daughter and grandson drowned in the river and ultimately died in Ganjam district of Odisha on Monday. The incident took place in the Bahuda River near Kalingadala village in Digapahandi area. Another minor girl has turned critical in this mishap.

The three deceased persons have been identified as Usha Behera, Anusuya Behera and the little child the grandson of Usha.

As per reports, four of a family, the woman, her daughter and grandson and granddaughter of Kalingadala village were returning home after visiting the Ratneswari temple today.

When they were walking in the river sand somehow they were accidentally swept away by the strong water current of the river. As the four went missing, the villagers who were witnessing the incident, acted bravely and jumped into the river. After sometime they managed to rescue the four and rushed them to the hospital.

However, at the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Chikiti the woman, her daughter and grandson were declared dead by the doctor after medical examination. The granddaughter has been shifted to MKCG, Berhampur as her health condition deteriorated.
