Balanga victim poured kerosene and set herself on fire: Odisha CM Mohan Majhi

Odisha Police on August 3 said that as per the investigation conducted so far, no other person is involved and she had self-immolated herself.

Balanga: Chief Minister Mohan Majhi said in the Assembly that the girl had set herself on fire in the Balanga incident in Puri.

“She poured kerosene and set herself on fire and no one has set her ablaze,” reiterated Chief Minister Mohan Majhi in the Odisha Assembly today.

Speaking in the Assembly, the Odisha CM said that the Balanga victim died on August 2 after being treated at AIIMS Delhi for 14 days. Before her death, the statement of the patient was recorded under Section 183 by South District Court No. 37, Saket, New Delhi.

In addition, the statement of the victim was recorded by the doctor treating her at AIIMS. In both the statements, the patient said that she herself poured kerosene and set herself on fire. After completing the investigation based on all the facts and evidence, the final report was submitted to the court on September 17 by the Balanga police station as a matter of fact.

It is worth mentioning here that the Odisha Police in a post on X said that as per the investigation conducted so far, it has been clarified that no other person is involved and that she had self-immolated herself on August 3.

On July 19, the mother of the patient filed a complaint at the police station in Balanga area of ​​Nuagopalpur, Puri district. She said that some unknown people forcibly took her daughter to the river bank and tried to kill her by pouring kerosene on her.

The local villagers shifted the victim to Pipili Hospital after which she was admitted to AIIMS Bhubaneswar on the same day. On July 20, the victim was airlifted to AIIMS Delhi. The Balanga incident created a political turmoil as it came days after the Balasore incident. Now the Chief Minister has said that no one killed the Balanga victim, she killed herself.
