Bhubaneswar: An atmosphere of fear has begun to make people feel insecure in Odisha amid the festive atmosphere in the state, alleged Leader of Opposition (LoP) Naveen Patnaik today.

Taking to his X handle, Patnaik said, “Amid the festive atmosphere in the state, an atmosphere of fear has begun to make people feel insecure.”

“The fact that Pitabas Panda, the senior lawyer of Ganjam, was shot and killed while standing in front of his own house is extremely heinous and heart breaking. I express my condolences to the family members who are shattered in grief,” he mentioned.

“This news has terrified the common people. Similarly, rape in Rourkela, heinous incident that occurred inside the LAccMI bus in Kanasa and the communal situation in Cuttack, the industrial city of Bhai-chara with night-time restriction in Balasore, are extremely worrisome,” the former CM added.

He further alleged that while the maha ghotala (major scam) in the police SI recruitment process has demoralized the aspirant youths, the BJP government in the state is also incapable of maintaining transparency and accountability in government appointments.

“The BJP government has completely failed to keep the law and order system strong in peaceful Odisha; which is creating an atmosphere of fear among the people,” Naveen claimed while questing why the government is not taking exemplary steps to stop crime?

“It is necessary for the government to be alert and vigilant for the interest of the people,” Patnaik suggested.
