Konark: In what can be considered as piece of good news for the visitors, they need not pay the entry fees to visit the world famous Sun temple in Konark in Puri district.

According to reports, the Konark Temple entrance fees will be waived on the occasion of the Samba Dashami tomorrow.

Currently, adult visitors of India, BIMSTEC (Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation) and SAARC (South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation) have to pay Rs 40 each while the foreign nationals have to pay Rs 600 each. However, children below 15 years of age and the physically disabled visitors get free entry into the Sun Temple.

However, all the visitors will get fee entry to Konark Temple tomorrow on the occasion of Samba Dashami festival.

According to reports, Samba Dashami is a unique Odia festival celebrating the cure of Lord Krishna’s son, Samba, from leprosy after 12 years of penance to the Sun God (Surya) near Konark; on this day, mothers pray to Surya at the Sun Temple and Chandrabhaga beach for their children’s health, offering special foods like Khichdi, Chakuli, Poori, and Poda Pitha.

Devotees flock to Konark for holy dips and to pull the Sun God’s chariot, marking it as a significant day for Sun Worship (Surya Puja).

As per the significance of the festival, the Samba Dashami highlights the ancient belief in sunlight’s power against diseases like leprosy and serves as a vibrant cultural festival in Odisha, deeply tied to the history and divinity of the Konark Sun Temple.
