AIIMS Bhubaneswar observes 10th Ayurveda Day, launches AYUSHVANI Magazine

Bhubaneswar: All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bhubaneswar celebrated the 10th Ayurveda Day with great fervour through a special programme organised at the OPD foyer. The event was graced by Executive Director Dr. Ashutosh Biswas, who emphasised the growing relevance of Ayurveda in daily healthcare and reiterated the institution’s commitment to integrating traditional Indian systems of medicine with modern medical practices.

To mark the occasion, the first edition of the in-house magazine ‘AYUSHVANI’ was released by the dignitaries. The magazine will serve as a platform to share updates, insights, and research developments from the AYUSH department.

The Department of AYUSH at AIIMS Bhubaneswar is playing a pivotal role in providing both Outpatient (OPD) and Inpatient (IPD) services. It offers a wide range of classical Ayurvedic therapies including Panchakarma, Shirodhara, Janubasti, Kati Basti, Shirobasti, Netra Kriyakalpa, Yogic Kriyas. The department also runs a dedicated pharmacy dispensing Ayurvedic, Homoeopathic, and Unani medicines free of cost to patients, informed Dr. Biswas.

In a significant development, the department has introduced Leech Therapy for conditions such as non-healing ulcers, varicose veins, and eczema. A dedicated Ksharasutra Operation Theatre is also functional for managing anorectal disorders including fistula and pilonidal sinus. Furthermore, eye disorders like glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy are being managed through kriyakalpa and Panchakarma procedures.

The AYUSH department is integrated with other clinical units for seamless patient referral and diagnostics. Ongoing research covers a wide range of conditions including diabetes, dyslipidemia, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, PCOS, infertility, and skin diseases.

Plans are in place to introduce personalised treatment using Digital Nadi Pariksha (Nadi Tarangini). Regular AYUSH health camps and the monthly Swarna Bindu Prashan programme for children are being conducted as part of community outreach.

Along with Dr. Ashutosh Biswas, Executive Director, Dr. Dillip Kumar Parida, Medical Superintendent, Lt. Col Abhijit Sarkar, DDA, Dr. Prasanta Kumar Sahoo, Sr. Medical Officer & Head, AYUSH Department, Dr. Ajit Kumar Pradhan, Medical Officer (Ayurveda), faculty members, staff, and other officials were also present on the occasion.

The celebration reflected AIIMS Bhubaneswar’s holistic approach to healthcare, blending time-tested traditional practices with evidence-based modern medicine.
