As many as three persons including a young girl were arrested with brown sugar while an illicit liquor trader was nabbed with country liquor and cash of Rs 13 lakh today.
Cuttack/Bhubaneswar: As many as three persons including a young girl were arrested with brown sugar while an illicit liquor trader was nabbed with country liquor and cash of Rs 13 lakh today.
According to reports, one Asha Kalandi (20) of Barbil area in Keonjhar district was nabbed by the officials of Cuttack Central Excise department after 161 grams of brown sugar was seized from her possessions. She had allegedly collected the contraband from the Jharpada area of Bhubaneswar and gone to Phulnakhara to sell it. However, she was arrested by the officials while standing on NH-16 near the Phulnakhara Chhaka.
Likewise, two youths named Priyabrata Sahu and Makar Sahu were arrested by the flying squad of the Excise department from near the Lingipur Chhaka in Bhubaneswar while they were planning to sell 176 grams of brown sugar. Both the drug smugglers are said to be the residents of Jagannathpurpatna village under the Dhauli police station limits. A bike was also seized from their possessions.
Likewise, the Commissionerate Police arrested a liquor trader from the Bayalis Mouza area of Cuttack whom they identified as Suman Bhoi, a resident of Tadapada. Police also seized Rs 13 lakh in cash and 11 litres of country liquor stored in 55 bottles while conducting raids on his residence.
According to Cuttack DCP Khilari Rishikesh Dnyandeo, a total of 14 criminal cases are already registered against Suman Bhoi at the Bayalis Mouza Police Station.
