Surgical cloth found in woman’s abdomen 15 months after c-section at Greater Noida
FIR against 6 doctors have been registered for leaving surgical cloth in woman’s abdomen during c-section delivery at Greater Noida hospital, Gautam Buddha Nagar.
New Delhi: A criminal case has been registered against 6 doctors of Greater Noida Hospital for medical negligence as they had left a surgical cloth inside a woman’s abdomen during a c-section delivery 15 months ago.
Police registered the criminal case based on the complaint filed by the woman’s husband, who is a resident of Delta-1 in Greater Noida, earlier this week.
According to media reports, Chief Medical Officer and two health department officials will investigate this criminal offense case.
The woman’s husband has alleged that the surgical cloth was nearly half a metre long. It was left inside her abdomen during childbirth at a private hospital in the knowledge Park area in November 2023 was discharged two days after delivery and since then she started experiencing abdominal pain. Over the following months her pain started to get severe and she noticed a lump forming near her surgical cut which was done doing her delivery.
The couple was not aware of the object until 15 months, during this time the woman suffered from abdominal pain and repeated health complications before it was finally removed during surgery in April this year.
When she was unable to bear the pain anymore she travelled to her parents’ place in Muzaffarnagar where the doctors advised her for a ultrasound and further diagnostic tests. She visited numerous hospitals but her reports were said as normal .
On April 14, she visited Kailash Hospital after the abdominal lump worsened and was advised to have a surgery
The woman has stated that the prolonged negligence resulted in two major surgeries, during the second one she required eight units of blood. She was repeatedly informed by the doctors that third surgery is not possible and also raised concerns about her ability to conceive again.
The woman and her husband alleged that they were threatened and warned not to register a criminal case against the hospital.
The victim further alleged that the investigation against the hospital was deliberately delayed for nearly two months and the cloth recovered during the second surgery was never sent for forensic report.
After allegedly receiving no response to a complaint she sent to the Gautam Buddha Nagar Police Commissionerate this August, the woman said adding that she was left with no option but to approach the court.
Chief Medical Officer Narendra Kumar said that action would be taken in accordance with court directions.
The investigation is underway and further details will be known later.
