Bengaluru: In a one of its kind incident, there was a mid-air scare on Air India Express Flight IX 1086 from Bengaluru to Varanasi as a passenger attempted to enter the cockpit.
According to reports, a passenger tried opening the cockpit door. He even tried entering the correct passcode. It was later reported that, the Captain immediately blocked the door.
It is further worth mentioning that, “I was searching for toilet” said the passenger on being caught. Later, all nine passengers were handed over to the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) headquarters on landing for investigation.
The crew however stopped him, and he was questioned by the officials following the incident, confirmed an spokesperson on Monday.
“We are aware of media reports regarding an incident on one of our flights to Varanasi, where a passenger approached the cockpit entry area while looking for the lavatory,” the Air India spokesperson said.
“We reaffirm that robust safety and security protocols are in place and were not compromised. The matter was reported to the relevant authorities on landing and is currently under investigation,” added the spokesperson.
Yesterday, an Air India Express flight from Vishakhapatnam to Hyderabad made a precautionary landing in Vizag over a suspected bird strike, an Air India Express spokesperson said.
An Air India Express spokesperson said, “One of our aircraft suffered a bird strike at Visakhapatnam and returned to the airport after take-off. The flight had to be cancelled pending certification of the aircraft’s feasibility to return to service. We regret the inconvenience and have offered multiple options to impacted guests, including complimentary rescheduling to our next flight on the same day, or a full refund if they elect to cancel.”
