Among the awardees is Vansh Tayal (17) from Chandigarh, who lost both his parents during the Covid pandemic. While staying at a child care institute, Vansh began caring for a younger child with cerebral palsy. He helped him with physiotherapy, feeding and daily needs. Vansh says he plans to continue supporting the child even after leaving the institute and wants to study clinical psychology and work for society.
Another recipient is Yogita Mandavi (14) from Chhattisgarh. Orphaned at a young age, she took up judo at a state home and went on to win the state championship in 2023. Yogita now dreams of representing India at the Olympics.
Sharvan Singh (10) from a Punjab border village was honored for bravery. During a military operation near his home, he served tea, milk and lassi to soldiers despite danger from cross-border firing.
Nine-year-old Ajay Raj from Agra also received the award after saving his father from a crocodile attack in the Yamuna river by bravely fighting the animal with a stick.
The PM Rashtriya Bal Puraskar is given every year in six categories, including bravery, social service, sports and innovation, to recognize outstanding children across India.
