Indian Railways is operating 12,000 special trains for festive season this year

Indian Railways has facilitated the operation of 12,000 special trains this festive season between October 1 and 19.

New Delhi: Indian Railways is running as many as 12,000 special trains during the festive season (Puja, Chhath an Diwali) in the last 19 days.

Over 1 crore passengers travelled via special trains in the last 19 days for festive season. The 12 lakh Railway employees are continously working 24×7 to ensure every journey this festive season is safe, smooth, and comfortable.

In comparison to last year over 4,000 special trains were run this year. Last year 7,724 trains were operated which is 12,000 this year.

The Executive Director, Information & Publicity, Railway Board, Dilip Kumar said,”This year we have decided to operate 12,000 trains… In the last 4 days, approximately 15 lakh passengers have travelled to their respective destinations using various stations in New Delhi.”

As many as 1,998 trains were run in the Central Railways (CR) zone while the East Coast Railways (EcoR) operated 367 trains, East central railways run 1213 trains. The breakdown has been given below.
