New Delhi: The Central Government has approved a 2 percent increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) for central government employees, said reports on Friday.
The DA will rise from 53% to 55%, leading to a salary increase of the employees. The last DA hike took place in July 2024, when it was raised from 50% to 53%.
The government generally increases dearness allowance twice in January and July for central employees and pensioners. Earlier, the dearness allowance is increased during Holi in March. The dearness allowance was last increased in July 2024. At that time, it was 50 percent to 53 percent. On March 7 last year, the cabinet increased DA from 46 percent to 50 percent.
In January 2025, the Central Government announced the implementation of the 8th Pay Commission. It is being said that it will be implemented next year. After the announcement of the formation of the 8th Pay Commission, employees and pensioners will get big benefits in salary, DA hike and pension.
Addressing a press conference after a meeting of the union cabinet, Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said the decision will benefit about 48.66 lakh Central Government employees and 66.55 lakh pensioners. The combined impact on the exchequer on account of increase in both Dearness Allowance and Dearness Relief would be Rs. 6614.04 crore per annum
This increase is in accordance with the accepted formula, which is based on the recommendations of the seventh Central Pay Commission, an official release said. (With Inputs From: ANI)
