Punjab: Police today conducted an encounter to nab accused Gursidak and Vishal in Amritsar grenade attack, in Rajasansi area. Accused Gursidak succumbed to the bullet injury sustained during the encounter.

According to police, when SHO Chheharta tried to stop the motorcycle on which the accused was riding, they left their motorcycle and fired at the police party.

“One bullet hit the head of Constable Gurpreet Singh on his left arm, one bullet hit the turban of Insp Amolak Singh and one bullet hit the police vehicle. Insp Vinod Kumar fired in self defence from his pistol which injured the accused Gursidak. Other accused managed to flee from the spot. HC Gurpreet Singh and Gursidak were taken to Civil Hospital for treatment, where Gursidak succumbed to his injuries. FIR on the incident is being registered at PS Airport,” say Police.

Director General of Police, Punjab, Gaurav Yadav told ANI, “Acting on specific intelligence, Commissionerate Police Amritsar decisively tracked down those responsible for the attack on Thakur Dwara Mandir, Amritsar, on March 15, 2025. An FIR has been registered at PS Chheharta under the Explosive Substances Act, and intelligence-based efforts led to the identification of the accused. Police teams tracked the suspects in Rajasansi.”

The DGP added, “The accused opened fire, injuring Head Constable Gurpreet Singh and striking Inspector Amolak Singh’s turban. Acting in self-defense, the police party fired back, injuring the accused. He was taken to Civil Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The other accused fled, and efforts are on to arrest him. A fresh FIR is being registered at PS Airport.”

On man accused of a grenade attack at Amritsar temple killed in a police encounter, Amritsar Police Commissioner GPS Bhullar said, “Accused Gursidak who had lobbed (the grenade) died in hospital. During this encounter, the accused fired at police, injuring Head Constable Gurpreet Singh and striking Inspector Amolak Singh’s turban. We will not let those sitting across the border and ISI be successful in their attempts to disturb peace in Punjab. We have zero tolerance towards crime.”
