3% DA hike for central government employees, pensioners ahead of Dussehra, Diwali

The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved a 3 per cent hike in Dearness Allowance (DA) for central government employees and pensioners

New-Delhi: Ahead of festivals such as Dussehra and Diwali, the Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved a 3 per cent hike in Dearness Allowance (DA) for central government employees and pensioners.

“The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi today has approved to release an additional instalment of Dearness Allowance (DA) to Central Government employees and Dearness Relief (DR) to pensioners w.e.f 01.07.2025 representing an increase of 3% over the existing rate of 55% of the Basic Pay/Pension, to compensate against price rise,” the Cabinet said in a statement issued on Wednesday.

The hike, once approved by the Union Cabinet, will take retrospective effect from July 1.

And, if approved, it will be the second hike this year; in March a two per cent increase was announced, taking DA payouts from 53 per cent of basic pay to 55 per cent.

And that was four months after another hike – in October last year – of three per cent.

The increase covers all Central government employees under the 7th Pay Commission, as well as pensioners and family pensioners.

DA is usually revised in January and July every year to help employees manage rising prices.
