Solar eclipse 2025: Will it be visible in India? Know timings

The last annual solar eclipse of 2025 today on September 21 will not be visible in India, read on to find out.

A partial Solar eclipse also called Surya Grahan is taking place today. It will be visible in the Southern Hemisphere constituting of New Zealand, Antarctica, South Pacific Ocean and parts of southern Australia.

It will not be visible in India, but as it coincides with the Pitru Paksha Amavasya, this last solar eclipse of 2025 holds high significance as per the Hindu traditions.

The phenomenon occurs when moon moves between the Sun and the Earth and thus blocks the sunlight to the Earth. This being a partial solar eclipse, the alignment of the three planetary bodies will not be in a perfect line. The moon will cover only a part of the Sun.

Timings:

According to IST, Surya Grahan begins at 10.59 Pm IST (1.29 pm EDT) today and will end at 3.23 am IST (5.53 pm EDT). The maximum eclipse timing is 1.11 am IST (3.41 am EDT).

Visibility in India?

Indians cannot witness this as it takes place after the sun has already set and it is dark in India at night as the Sun is already below the horizon. This is the last eclipse in September 2025 and the next eclipse will occur on February 17, 2026.

It is customary to take a bath, clean the house by sprinkling holy Ganga jal. Similarly, the food left over is not consumed and fresh meals are prepared.
