Diwali delight turns deadly: Man killed, 10-year-old daughter injured in Bhubaneswar road mishap
The accident has devastated the family, leaving them to cope with the loss of their breadwinner and the uncertain future of their critically injured daughter.
Bhubaneswar: Diwali delight turned deadly for a family in the capital city of Odisha lately as the father was killed and his 10 year old daughter turned critical in a deadly road mishap. A car hit their scooty while returning home after purchasing firecrackers for Diwali.
The horrendous accident took place on the Jayadev Vihar flyover on Wednesday, 15th Oct, 2025 and the following day the critically injured father succumbed to the injuries while undergoing treatment in the hospital. And now, the 10 year old daughter is struggling for life in the hospital.
The minor girl had dreamed well to celebrate Diwali by bursting crackers with her siblings. She had even planned which crackers she will burst and which ones will be given to her siblings.
The girl was travelling on the scooty as the pinion rider while her father was riding. She was anxious to reach home, so that she can burst some ‘Jhurjhuri’ crackers the same day. The father and daughter were returning to Bhubaneswar from Baghamari in Khordha area, from their native village. And they had purchased some crackers, especially the ones that children burst, like ‘jhurjhuri’ and low power cracker bombs.
Yet the fifth grade studying girl’s delight turned deadly. While they were on the Jaydev Vihar flyover a car hit their scooty from behind and their vehicle was dragged away for some distance. The jolt also made the scooty to catch fire.
As a result, the father and daughter turned critical. They were admitted to the hospital for treatment. They had to move from one hospital to another to get proper treatment. Yet, finally the father passed away in a private hospital recently while undergoing treatment.
The deceased has been identified as Parsuram Lenka. His native place is Kotpol village in Baghmari area of Khordha district. He was living with his family in the Siridi Saibaba temple area on the Tankapani road. He was running a vegetable shop in the Chili Pokhari area in the Tankapani road of Bhubaneswar for many years.
The family has three daughters and one young son. Parsuram had gone to his village two days ago with his youngest daughter. On Wednesday, he was returning from the village with his daughter on a scooty when they faced the accident.
This Diwali turned tragic for this family as the bread earner of the family passed away. Now the girl is struggling to survive. The accident destroyed their family and the family members got devastated.
