Soha Ali Khan, best known for her role in Rang De Basanti recently spoke about her mother, legendary actress Sharmila Tagore and her remarkable energy even at the age of 80.
Despite repeated requests from Soha to shift back to Mumbai, Sharmila prefers to live independently in Delhi, where she continues to lead life on her own terms.
Soha recalled a memorable incident that shows just how adventurous her mother still is. On her way to a book launch in Delhi, Sharmila got stuck in heavy traffic.
Instead of waiting, she stepped out of her car and asked a woman on a scooter for a lift. After being dropped halfway, she switched to another bike and finally walked the remaining distance to the venue.
For Soha, even at 80, this bold and lively act was a reminder that her mother’s fearless spirit remains unchanged.
Soha also shared that Sharmila is still indecisive about her future in films. At times she feels like retiring but the moment she comes across an exciting script, she reconsiders. Her passion for cinema continues to draw her back.
The actress also opened up about a difficult chapter in her mother’s life. Sharmila Tagore was diagnosed with lung cancer but luckily it was detected at stage zero.
Doctors were able to surgically remove it and she did not require chemotherapy. After her recovery, she made a strong return to Bengali cinema after 18 years with Suman Ghosh’s psychological drama Puratawn.
Her performance earned high praise from critics, and the film went on to become the fifth highest-grossing Bengali movie of the year.
