President of Ramlila Committee clears the air over Actress Poonam Pandey’s role as Mandodari
The President of the Luv Kush Ramlila Committee clarified that Poonam Pandey will not play the role of Mandodari this year.
New Delhi: The President of Luv Kush Ramlila Committee, Arjun Kumar cleared the air and said that actor Poonam Pandey will not play Mandodari in the Ramlila.
A few days ago speculations were rife that actress Poonam Pandey has been roped in to play the role of Mandodari, the wife of Ravana in a Ramlila organised by the Luv Kush Ramlila Committee. Today the president of the committee has clarified that on account of the sentiments of the general public, the decision has been taken and Poonam Pandey will not play the role of Mandodari.
Arjun Kumar, president of Luv Kush Ramlila Committee, said, “Public sentiments within the country have been taken into account. The Ramlila isn’t meant to be done by undermining public sentiment. Our goal is clear: the Ramlila should be held with public sentiment in mind.”
He further added that there are no such plans in this year’s Ramlila, while pushing her role to a further date at the same time.
It is worth mentioning here that, several political parties demanded her to be dropped from the role. The choice of her films and given the controversy around her name, the public was unhappy over her playing the role.
Earlier, in a statement, Arjun Kumar, the President of the Committee said that, “When we approached Poonam Pandey, for this role, she instantly agreed.”
