Nayanthara opens up about her equation with Trisha, says ‘We’re not friends, no issues’
South Indian actress Nayanthara breaks her silence on her rumored rivalry with Trisha, revealing the truth about their relationship
Tamil cinema has a rich tradition of legendary rivalries, not only among male actors, but even among female actresses. One such legendary rivalry was between Trisha and Nayanthara, which topped the news at that time. The two actresses were even jokingly referred to in a legendary Vadivelu comedy scene.
In an open interview with Vijay TV during the late 2000s, Nayanthara spoke about the so-called rivalry between her and Trisha. She clarified that she does not give many interviews, which might be misjudged by some as arrogance. “I think that doesn’t go down well with many, and they go on to term me as arrogant, etc… My point is rather simple… I only talk when there is something that is worth talking about.”
Nayanthara also spoke about her experiences with other female co-stars, such as Namitha, with whom she had a tense relationship while shooting Billa. “Honestly, for the first few days, we didn’t have any issues, and we used to talk normally. Suddenly, one nice day, she stopped communicating with me. In fact, if we were all together in a group, she would greet everyone but me. There was no argument or fight, but when it suddenly happens, I felt it too. If they have an issue, it is their issue.”
When questioned about her friendship with Trisha and Shriya Saran, Nayanthara explained, “Friends is such a big word to use lightly. I am not friends with Trisha… we are acquaintances. There does seem to be issues between us, and it is like the age-old myth that women don’t click with other women. But seriously, I have no issues with her or anybody.” In spite of the reported rivalry, both Trisha and Nayanthara remain successful Tamil cinema actresses.
