Legendary Mahabharat actor Pankaj Dheer passes away at 68
Veteran actor Pankaj Dheer, best remembered for his portrayal of Karna in popular television series 'Mahabharat' passes away at 65.
Veteran actor Pankaj Dheer, best remembered for his powerful portrayal of the warrior Karna in B.R. Chopra’s legendary television series Mahabharat, passed away on Wednesday in Mumbai. the news of his demise was reportedly confirmed by his close friend and fellow actor Amit Behl.
According to the reports, the veteran actor had been battling cancer for quite some time. Despite undergoing treatment and a major surgery, his health deteriorated after the disease relapsed a few months ago.
His cremation would be reportedly held on Wednesday at 4:30 pm near Pawan Hans, Vile Parle (West), Mumbai.
Over the decades, Pankaj Dheer made a remarkable mark in both film and television. Apart from his unforgettable role in Mahabharat, he appeared in popular films such as Sanam Bewafa, Baadshah and TV serials like Chandrakanta and Sasural Simar Ka.
He also explored direction with the film My Father Godfather and founded the Abhinay Acting Academy to train aspiring performers.
His portrayal of Karna remains one of the most iconic in Indian television history. His performance was so impactful that visuals of his character were reportedly used in school textbooks and statues depicting Karna were modeled after his appearance.
He is survived by his wife, Anita Dheer, and son, actor Nikitin Dheer.
