Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan opened up about the knife attack at his Bandra home in Mumbai earlier this year. During his recent appearance on Amazon Prime’s latest show, Two Much with Kajol and Twinkle, the actor shared about how he dealt with the situation.

The incident took place on January 16, when Saif was attacked and stabbed six times by an assailant inside his home. He was rushed to Lilavati Hospital, where he underwent spinal and plastic surgeries. Saif stayed there for a week and was discharged on January 21.

Recalling the hospital experience, Saif said that when he reached the emergency ward, the staff was not fully alert. He asked for a stretcher but was offered a wheelchair instead, which he refused. Only after he introduced himself as Saif Ali Khan and explained it was a serious emergency did the hospital staff take quick action.

After the surgeries, doctors and family members advised Saif to use a wheelchair or an ambulance to go home. But Saif explained why he refused. “It was very bad, but it was okay. They stitched it up, and I was there for a week. The back was okay, and it was painful to walk, but I could walk. The wheelchair was not required.”

“Then somebody said, ‘You should go in an ambulance,’ somebody said, ‘You should go in a wheelchair.’ My instinct was, why create any kind of panic or worry, even with family, fans, well-wishers, anyone? And just walk out to send a picture message, that you’re okay. That was the idea,” the actor added.

His mother, veteran actor Sharmila Tagore later said that she had asked him to use a wheelchair, which would have prevented unnecessary controversy.

Akshay Kumar, who was also present on the show then praised him saying, “Hats off to you for fighting. It was so brave of you. It doesn’t happen usually, but you have been a real hero, at least for your son and your family.”

Further, Kajol recalled being surprised when she saw Saif walking out of the hospital. “I was amazed when I saw the video of you walking out. It looked so strong.”

Saif’s decision received mixed reactions with many calling the entire stabbing incident as ‘Fake’ or ‘PR stunt.’
