Neeraj Ghaywan’s highly anticipated film Homebound has hit theatres across India today, September 26. Produced by Dharma Productions, the film features Ishaan Khatter, Vishal Jethwa and Janhvi Kapoor in leading roles.

As per sources, Homebound has been officially selected as India’s entry for the Oscars this year. Before its release, the film underwent scrutiny by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).

The Examining Committee initially raised multiple objections, prompting a review by the Revising Committee. After implementing 11 required changes, the film was cleared with a U/A 16+ certificate on September 12.

The modifications included muting or replacing certain words in six instances, removing a five-second dialogue, “Aloo gobhi khaate hai,” and cutting a two-second shot of a man performing puja.

Another dialogue around the 21-minute mark was reportedly muted and replaced and the word ‘gyaan’ was deleted. The most significant cut came from a cricket match sequence, where 32 seconds of visuals and dialogues were removed.

Additional edits involved trimming a 16-second portion, a 20-second shot, muting a short dialogue and changing visuals of a passing car to meet censor board standards. Overall, 77 seconds of footage were removed.

After these adjustments, the final runtime of Homebound is 122 minutes (2 hours and 2 minutes).

‘Homebound’ earned a nine-minute long standing ovation at its Cannes premiere. Further, it also got an equally warm response at the Toronto International Film Festival.
