Box office collection Day 1: Kantara Chapter 1 vs Sunny Sanskari ki Tulsi Kumari

The Dusshera holiday saw two big releases at the Indian box office with Rishab Shetty’s ‘Kantara Chapter 1’, the prequel to his 2022 blockbuster Kantara and Shashank Khaitan’s family entertainer ‘Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari’ (SSKTK) starring Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor.

Both films arrived with high expectations, but their opening day collections have shown a stark contrast.
Starting with, Kantara Chapter 1 stormed into theatres with a record-breaking start.

Written, directed and led by Rishab Shetty, the film opened to packed cinemas across regions. The movie earned over Rs 60 crore nett on its first day, making it one of the biggest Indian openers of the year.

The Kannada version witnessed 88.13% occupancy reflecting a near houseful run. The dubbed versions also performed well, with Telugu at 75.34%, Tamil at 71.42% and Hindi at 29.84%.

In comparison, Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari had a modest start. Despite being released on October 2 with over 3,000 shows nationwide, the Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor starrer collected Rs 9.25 crore nett on day one.

The overall occupancy stood at 34.08%, with morning shows at 14.77%, afternoon at 38.93%, evening at 43.65% and night at 38.95%. Delhi NCR and Mumbai were the strongest markets, hosting 711 and 535 shows, respectively.
