Vir Das spends Rs. 50,000 on Air India seat, gets broken table and no wheelchair assistance
Vir Das' disappointing Air India experience: spends Rs. 50,000 on a seat with broken amenities and no wheelchair assistance for his wife
Comedian Vir Das recently spoke about his frustrating experience with Air India after boarding a recent flight from Mumbai to Delhi. Das, an Air India loyalist, said he was forced to publicly share his disappointment due to the airline’s failure to meet his expectations.
The inconvenience started when Das and his wife, who has a broken foot, pre-booked a wheelchair and Pranaam meet-and-greet services for their Rs. 1 lakh flight. But when they arrived in Delhi, the wheelchair was nowhere to be seen. Das remembered approaching the cabin crew for help, only to receive “silence and a clueless look at each other.”
As they stepped off the plane, Das’s wife had to climb down the steep ladder of the aircraft without assistance, aggravating her wound. When Das requested assistance from the ground crew, he was dismissed. The actor-comedian stated that a flight attendant then shrugged at them and muttered, “Sir kya karein… sorry.”
To add insult to injury, their flight experience was further marred by broken tables, broken leg rests, and a stuck seat in the reclined position, even though the plane was “newly refurbished.” Das commented that this was especially disappointing considering the high price of their tickets, Rs. 50,000 per seat.
In his tweet, Das revealed that he finally took matters into his own hands, pushing an unclaimed wheelchair and wheeling his wife to baggage claim and out of the airport himself. “No staff because the flight is late,” he tweeted. Das concluded his tweet by asking Air India to pick up the wheelchair from the parking lot.
“I am a life-long loyalist. I think you’ve got the friendliest cabin staff in the air, this post hurts me to pen,” Das stated, disappointed with the service of the airline. (link unavailable) has contacted Air India for comment and will add it to the article after it is received.

Dear @airindia Please reclaim your wheelchair. I’m a lifetime loyalist. I believe you’ve got the nicest cabin crew in the sky, this post pains me to write. My wife and I book Pranaam and a wheelchair because she’s got a foot fracture that’s still healing. We’re flying to delhi.…
