Ola Electric launches Ola Shakti, enters Rs 1 trillion BESS market

Ola Electric has launched Ola Shakti, its first residential energy solution in India on Thursday. With the launch of Ola Sakti, the company has entered into Rs 1 trillion battery energy storage systems (BESS) market of the country. Ola has set an introductory price of Rs 29,999 for the battery. It is currently available for booking at Rs 999. The deliveries is expected to start from Makar Sankranti next year.
The company has stated that the Ola Shakti is a world-class battery and cell technology and have been built using the dvanced 4680 Bharat Cell and highly durable, efficient automotive battery packs. This will be the first battery that has been produced, developed and engineered fully in India.
The company aims to tap into the Rs 1 trillion BESS market that is expected to grow into an Rs 3 trillion by 2030. Meanwhile, Ola Electric expects its annual BESS consumption to scale up to 5 Gigawatt hour (GWh) in the next few years.
Key features of Ola Shakti
The Ola Shakti is claimed to feature several features including instant power switch, smart energy management, Automotive-grade safety, Time-of-Day (ToD) charging, and IP67-rated batteries.
The battery is claimed to switch on or off in almost no time. This keeps the appliances safe. This is different from traditional inverters or diesel generators that takes some time to switch power. It is made to monitors and controls energy use in real-time. It also helps to save electricity and money by learning usage patterns, optimises consumption. The battery can also operate across a wide voltage range (120V–290V), protecting devices from fluctuations. Moreover, the IP67-rating keeps it safe from dust, water, and heavy rains.
With automotive-grade safety, it provides up to 98 per cent efficiency, with zero running or maintenance costs. The other features include Time-of-Day (ToD) charging, smart backup prioritisation, remote diagnostics, OTA software updates, expansion options, and online operation for uninterrupted power supply.

Ola Shakti can be bought in multiple configuration including 1.5 kWh, 3 kWh, 5.2 kWh, and 9.1 kWh. The introductory prices for the first 10,000 units is set at:
- Rs 29,999 – 1.5 kWh
- Rs 55,999 – 3 kWh
- Rs 119,999 – 5.2 kWh
- Rs 159,999 – 9.1 kWh
