The ministry of road transport and highways has introduced new rules for vehicles entering troll plazas without a valid or functional FASTag. These rules will come into effect from November 15, 2025.

According to the new notifications, vehicles without FASTag will have to pay more than the regular toll fee and the amount will depend on the mode of payment. If the payment is made in cash, the vehicle owner will need to double the normal toll fee.

But, if the payment is done through UPI, the charge will be only 1.25 times the regular fee, which is much cheaper compared to cash.

For example, if the normal toll fee is Rs.100, earlier non-FASTag drivers had to pay Rs.200 in cash. Now, they will only need to pay Rs.125, making it more affordable and encouraging digital payments.

Additionally, If the toll plaza machine is not working for any reason, drivers will not have to pay anything and can pass through the plaza without making a payment.

Further, the ministry reportedly stated that this step has been taken to reduce cash transactions at toll plazas and to encourage the use of digital payments.

From mid-November 2025, all non FASTag users will have to follow this new system. However, FASTag users will continue to pay the regular toll fee without any additional charges.
