The state-run Indian telecom operator BSNL (Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited) will soon launch the VoWi-Fi (voice over Wi-Fi) service PAN-India. According to reports, the state-run Indian telecom operator will offer this service after the successful roll out of 4G in the country.

Currently, only Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel offer their customers VoWi-Fi (voice over Wi-Fi) service across India. Meanwhile, Vodafone Idea (Vi) also offers VoWi-Fi or Wi-Fi calling service to its customers in select circles.

If reports are to be believed, BSNL is planning to launch Wi-Fi calling services for its customers PAN India soon.

Meanwhile, BSNL has confirmed that it will complete roll out of 4G in 1 lakh sites by June 2025. Following the successful launch of 4G, the telcos plans to upgrade some sites to 5G. The VoLTE services will be activated by default for 4G consumers.

Wi-Fi calling services will be a natural extension to the 4G that BSNL is offering. With default VoLTE service activation, users don’t need USSD code to enter to activate it manually. If the VoLTE services have not been activated for you, then contact BSNL to sol;ve the issue.

Wi-Fi calling support comes in handy in areas/zones where there is no deep network coverage. Though, Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel have been providing the service some time now. BSNL didn’t offer the service as it did not have 4G so far.

Now the wait is for BSNL to complete 4G rollout in 1 lakh sites. Along with this, the telco is also launching new services such as IFTV (intranet fiber TV) services which it showcased at the recently concluded India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2024.

BSNL has seen a rise in its mobile customers base as it got about 3.6 million new subscribers.
