Will Scharf to replace David Warrington as White House counsel
US President Donald Trump has chosen White House Staff Secretary Will Scharf as the next White House counsel, replacing David Warrington
USA: US President Donald Trump has chosen Will Scharf to be his White House counsel in two years’ time when it becomes available after David Warrington, the incumbent counsel, steps down in 2026.
Scharf, a federal prosecutor who has defended Mr Trump and his enterprises, will begin in the job of White House Staff Secretary September 1st 2026.
Scharf also now chairs the National Capital Planning Commission, which had been charged with approving plans for a new $400 million White House ballroom, per a report.
Warrington has been the counsel to the President since Jan. 20, 2017 (when Trump’s second term began) and was leaving the administration for a post in the private sector.
The White House counsel serves as a key legal adviser to the President on issues involving executive actions, legislation, judicial matters and congressional investigations.
The move is prompted by the 2026 mid term elections in the US when further scrutiny could arise from Congress, in addition to legal scrutiny.
