New Delhi: Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Wednesday held talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif on a plethora of key bilateral and regional issues including the peace and reconciliation process in Afghanistan as well as the strategic Chabahar port.

External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said Zarif and Swaraj discussed important bilateral issues and shared perspective on regional situation. As per reports, India’s crude oil import from Iran, implementation of the Chabahar Port Project and peace process in Afghanistan figured prominently during the talks.

Situation arising from US withdrawl from Iranian Nuclear deal was also discussed during the talk.

Interestingly, Iran is India’s third largest oil supplier after Iraq and Saudi Arabia. On the other hand, India is an active partner in the development of Chabahar port in Iran.

In May 2016, India, Iran and Afghanistan had signed a pact to set up a transit and transport corridor among the three nations through the Chabahar port in Iran as one of the regional hubs.
