Chile: A strong earthquake of 7.1 magnitude on the Richter scale jolted the border of Chile and Argentina on Friday morning.
The severe tremors were felt at around 7.20 am Indian Standard Time (IST). As per reports given by the National Center for Seismology, the quake originated at a depth of 115 km at latitude of 23.06 south and 67.78 west longitude.
Taking to its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, the NCS said, “EQ of M: 7.1, on: 19/07/2024 07:20:47 IST, Lat: 23.06 S, Long: 67.78 W, Depth: 115 Km, Location: Chile-Argentina Border Region.”
Meanwhile, any casualties or property damage has not been reported yet. Tsunami alert has also not been issued yet.
It is worth mentioning here that Chile frequently experiences earthquakes. In 2010, an earthquake of 8.8 magnitude jolted the nation. During this earthquake and subsequent tsunami claimed over 526 lives.
