South African Prez Cyril Ramaphosa Meets Rahul Gandhi, Invites Him To SA

New Delhi: South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, who was on a two-day visit to India to attend the 70th Republic day celebrations at New Delhi, met Congress President Rahul Gandhi and invited him to visit South Africa.

A Congress delegation led by Rahul Gandhi and former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh met President Ramaphosa, who is also the President of African National Congress (ANC) on Saturday after the Republic day parade.

Cyril Ramaphosa invited Rahul Gandhi to visit South Africa and the invitation was accepted, Congress said. Details are being worked out by the foreign affairs departments of both the nations regarding the visit, the party said.

Remembering the century-old historic ties between India and South Africa as well as the INC and ANC, the leaders had a discussion on party-to-party, regional and global issues.

“President Ramaphosa lauded India’s role in the fight against Apartheid. Both, ANC president and Rahul Gandhi reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthen bilateral relations between the two fraternal parties,” a spokesperson of the Congress party said.
