Powerful explosion rocks Afghan capital Kabul
Kabul: A powerful explosion shook the Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan on Monday morning. As the blast took place in rush hour dozens of people are expected to be injured in the blast.
Interior ministry spokesman Nasrat Rahimi informed that the Kabul explosion during rush hour in the Puli Mahmood Khan neighbourhood. Afghan’s Defence Ministry is located in the area.
The dozens of injured have been taken to hospitals, informed health ministry spokesman Wahidullah Mayar.
Kabul’s chief police spokesman, Firdous Faramaz, said there was a loud explosion, but gave no details. No militant group has yet claimed responsibility. Both the militant Islamic State (IS) and the Taliban are active in Kabul.
The explosion comes just days after the United States and the Taliban re-opened peace talks in Qatar.
