Pakistan: 17 Killed As Army Aircraft Crashes In Residential Area

Islamabad: A Pakistani military aircraft crashed in a residential area in Rawalpindi early on Tuesday morning, killing all five crew members and 12 civilians, an army statement said.

Rawalpindi is close to the capital, Islamabad, and is where the headquarters of the Pakistan army is based.

The website of the newspaper ‘The News’ showed footage of a building engulfed in flames. As of now, nothing is known regarding the cause of the crash or the type of aircraft involved.

As many as 12 persons have sustained serious injuries in the mishap. Military and civilian rescue teams rushed the scene and extinguished the fire and took the injured to hospital, the statement from the army’s communications wing said.
