One killed, hundreds displaced as rain triggers flood across Nepal’s Tarai region

Kathmandu: One person was killed and hundreds of families were displaced after continuous rain triggered flood in Nepal’s Tarai region.

Ram Bahadur BK, 58, was swept away by Gachhiya Khola in Sundarharaincha, The Himalayan Times quoted Morang Chief District Officer Kashi Raj Dahal as saying.

Twenty-six families have been evacuated while many shifted to municipality schools.

The worst hit localities were — most parts of Jhapa, Kankai, Ratuwa, Biring, and areas along the Mechi River.

Sunbarshi Municipality, Belbari Municipality, and Kerabari, Katahari, Gramthan, and Budhiganga rural municipalities in Morang, among others were in danger due to inundation and erosion.

Vehicular movement was affected at Butwal’s Golpark, Laxmi Nagar, Traffic Chowk, Hospital Line, and Naya Bus Park areas.
