Nobel Prize 2018 for Chemistry goes to Frances Arnold, George Smith and Gregory Winter

Stockholm: Scientists Frances Arnold, George Smith and Gregory Winter won the 2018 Nobel Prize for Chemistry today.

The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences decided to award the Nobel Prize to them for research using directed evolution to produce enzymes for new chemicals and pharmaceuticals.

“The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences has decided to award the #NobelPrize in Chemistry 2018 with one half to Frances H. Arnold and the other half jointly to George P. Smith and Sir Gregory P. Winter,” said the Nobel Prize twitter handle.

Arthur Ashkin (USA), Gérard Mourou (France) and Donna Strickland (Canada) had won the Nobel Prize in physics yesterday.

American James Allison and Japan’s Tasuku Honjo on Monday won the Nobel medicine prize for groundbreaking work in fighting cancer with the body’s own immune system.

The Nobel peace prize will be announced on Friday and the Nobel Prize in economics will be declared on October 8.
