Miracle! Baby boy found alive after 35 hours under rubble of partially collapsed building

Moscow: In what could be considered as a miracle on the New Year Day , an 11-month boy was today rescued alive after he spent 35 hours in freezing cold in the rubble of an apartment block that partially collapsed in an explosion in the Russian city of Magnitogorsk, where temperature has dropped to -17 Celsius (1.4 Fahrenheit).

According to reports, the baby was rescued from the rubble after one of the rescuers heard him crying. His removal was difficult because of unstable debris which posed risks for the rescuers.

The infant was rushed to the hospital immediately after he was rescued. However, he is now diagnosed with a serious freezer burn and a closed-head injury.

Meanwhile, the boy’s mother, who is alive, has already arrived at the hospital to attend him.

While at least seven people were killed, several others were injured after 48 apartments in a 10-storey building were damaged by a blast, thought to have been caused by a gas leak, early on Monday when many residents were asleep.

As many as 36 people are said to be still missing.
