Massive gas explosion in Mexico city claims 3 lives, 70 injured
A gas tanker exploded in Mexico city in which as many as three people were killed and over 70 were injured.
Mexico City: In a shocking incident, three people died and over 70 people were injured, 19 of them critically on Wednesday after a gas truck exploded in Iztapalapa borough of Mexico city.
The Mayor of the city, Clara Brugada informed this via a press conference. All the injured were rushed to the hospitals. The Secretary of Citizen Security, Pablo Vázquez, and Secretary of Comprehensive Risk Management and Civil Protection, Myriam Urzúa reached the spot.
The pictures of the gas tanker explosion in Mexico city have gone viral on the social media. The circulating images show the flames rising high into the air as people screamed and a chaotic situation prevailed.
Several other videos show smoke billowing from the lorry as the fire tenders try to douse the fire.
Reportedly, the vehicle was carrying 49,500 litres of gas called ‘pipas’ (local name) when it overturned near Puente de la Concordia area. As many as 18 vehicles in the nearby area were also affected by the explosion.
The fire has been brought under control but the cooling efforts are still underway.
