Maldives parliament passes resolution for PM Modi’s speech

New Delhi: The Maldivian parliament on Wednesday passed a resolution for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s speech at the Parliament during his upcoming visit to the Maldives.

Foreign Minister of Maldives Abdulla Shahid took the Twitter route to share the development.

Sources said, all 80 members present in the Parliament voted in favour of the resolution inviting the Indian Prime Minister to deliver a speech at the House.

Prime Minister Modi is likely to visit the island nation early next month for his first bilateral visit after assuming office for the second term, sources added.

The last Indian Prime Minister to address the Majlis was Manmohan Singh in 2011.

Notably, the Indian government had announced an economic assistance worth 1.5 billion US dollars during the visit of President Solih to New Delhi in December last year.
