Mezzeh, Damascus: Safaa Ahmad, a well-known Syrian TV anchor, tragically lost her life on Tuesday morning during an Israeli airstrike in Damascus’ Mezzeh District. The Syrian Ministry of Defense reports that the attack, which was launched from the occupied Golan Heights on the city, occurred at around two in the morning.
The missile attack was carried out by Israeli aircraft, and the Israeli Ministry of Defense confirmed this. They also had several other targets in and around Damascus. Despite the fact that the Syrian air defenses were able to intercept and destroy the majority of the missiles and drones. Unfortunately, Safaa Ahmad was one of the three civilian casualties of the strike. Additionally, the attack caused roughly nine more injuries.
When Safaa Ahmad joined Syria TV in 2002, she was already a very talented TV anchor. She was well-known for hosting a variety of cultural programs, most notably the well-known breakfast program “Sabah Al-Kheir.” Syria’s state television broke the news of her passing while releasing a statement expressing their condolences. Her terrible passing was verified by Syria’s General Directorate of Radio and Television. There were also references to her as a “martyr.”
In Western Damascus, the Mezzeh neighborhood is a well-known region, and this is where the airstrike occurred. Numerous ambassadors, beaurocrats, businesspeople, and residential buildings, notably the Iranian Embassy, have called that specific region home. The administration attested to the fact that the area had sustained quite serious damage.
Even the Syrian state news agency SANA also confirmed that the airstrike was launched by Israel using aircrafts and drones, but the Syrian air defense dodged partial damage.
The timing of this attack is very overwhelming, as there are reports coming of Israeli ground raids taking place in neighbouring Lebanon. These specific events are escalating the on-going conflicts between Israel and other groups in the region.
After the news of the tragic death of Safaa Ahmad, it has taken a toll on the citizens about the severity of the violence and conflicts happening in the Middle East. Safaa Ahmad had a very long and successful career, leaving behind her legacy.
