Iran Floods: Death Toll Reaches 62

Tehran: According to the latest reports by Iranian media, the number of dead from the recent devastating floods has reached 62, up from 57 on Tuesday.

A report by Iran’s Fars News Agency quotes Ahmad Shojaei, head of the Iranian forensic medicine department saying that the casualties were in various provinces that were ravaged by horrific floods in the last two weeks.

The gulf-nation has been facing major floodings in the western part of the country which has destroyed numerous villages and towns, rendering thousands homeless. An emergency has also been declared in these parts of the country.

Meanwhile, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani lashed out America saying that the US sanctions against Iran have allegedly blocked international relief assistance to flood-affected people; calling the sanctions an “unprecedented crime.”
