Jakarta: Authorities in Indonesia have identified the body of Indian pilot Bhavya Suneja who had flown the Lion Air flight JT610 that crashed into the Java sea on October 29.

This has been confirmed by Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Twitter, who wrote- “Indonesian authorities have confirmed identification of the body of Capt.Bhavya Suneja. The remains will be handed over to the family in the presence of @IndianEmbJkt today. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.”

Notably, the Lion Air flight flying from Jakarta to Sumatra on October 29 had plunged into the Java sea coast just a few minutes after take-off. The jet, flying to Pangkal Pinang on the island of Bangka, disappeared from radar only 13 minutes after taking off from Jakarta, as it plunged into the ocean.

The aircraft, a Boeing 737, reportedly had 178 adult passengers and seven crew members (two pilots and five flight attendants) aboard.

Captain Suneja was a resident of Delhi and had completed his schooling from Ahlcon Public School in 2005. He was a trainee pilot for the Boeing 737NG and later went on to join as an airline pilot for the PT Lion Air in March 2011.
