An Indian-origin man shot dead his wife and three of her relatives in an act of domestic violence at a residence in Georgia
New Delhi: In a tragic incident, an Indian-origin man shot dead his wife and three of her relatives in an act of domestic violence at a residence in Lawrenceville, Georgia, near Atlanta. Meanwhile, three children were found hiding in a closet to escape the violence.
Vijay Kumar, the 51-year-old accused, was arrested by the Gwinnett County Police. The victims have been known as Meemu Dogra (43), wife of Kumar, and her relatives, Gourav Kumar (33), Nidhi Chander (37), and Harish Chander (38).
The investigators have said that the incident happened on Friday morning at a home on Brook Ivy Court in Lawrenceville. Police claimed that an argument erupted between Kumar and his wife at their Atlanta area house, and that Kumar then took her and their children in his vehicle to the house of his relative,s where he shot her.
During the attack, three children aged 7, 10, and 12 years were present in the house. When shots were fired, the children are said to have taken refuge in a closet, and one of them managed to make a call to 911 at at about 2.30 am. Upon arrival, officers discovered the bodies of four adults inside the residence, all of whom had sustained fatal gunshot wounds. The three children survived, and they were placed under the care of their family members.
The Consulate General of India in Atlanta, expressing grief over the shooting, said the alleged shooter has been arrested and all possible assistance was being extended to the bereaved family.
“We are deeply grieved by a tragic shooting incident linked to an alleged family dispute, in which an Indian national was among the victims. The alleged shooter has been arrested, and all possible assistance is being extended to the bereaved family,” it said on X.
