Indian banker shot dead by AK-47 over loan dispute in Uganda

The visuals of the murder, which happened inside the victim's office in Uganda's capital city of Kampala, was caught on CCTV camera.

Kampala: In a horrific incident, a 39-year-old Indian banker was shot dead by an off-duty police constable in Uganda’s capital city of Kampala with a stolen AK-47 assault rifle over loan dispute.

The money lender was killed over a misunderstanding involving a loan of 2.1 million shillings (Rs 46,407).

The accused have been been identified as 30-year-old Ivan Wabwire, has been arrested by the Kampala police. He had shot Uttam Bhandari on May 12.

The entire incident was recorded on a CCTV installed in the room where the accused shot dead the victim. The video showed how Wabwire fired multiple rounds of bullets at Bhandari from close range. The chilling footage of the incident has been going viral on social media.

According to the police, Bhandari was the director of TFS financial services and Wabwire was his client.

According to reports, the victim and the accused had a misunderstanding over the amount the constable owed to the firm. When Wabwire was told about the loan amount (2.1 million shillings) on May 12, he reportedly started arguing with Bhandari and suddenly opened fire at him.

Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Patrick Onyango told the Daily Monitor that Wabwire abandoned his AK-47 rifle and fled from the scene after shooting Bhandari. Police have recovered 13 cartridges from the crime scene.

According to police, Wabwire has a history of mental instability and has been banned from possessing from any firearm for five years after being admitted to a hospital twice over the mental breakdown.

Later, Wabwire was arrested and he is stationed at Busa police station in eastern Uganda and is being questioned.
