India summons Pakistan Deputy High Commissioner

New Delhi: The Ministry of External Affairs summoned Pakistan Deputy High Commissioner Syed Haider Shah at South Block here on Wednesday evening amid growing tension at the LoC between the two neighbouring countries.

Shah was summoned after Pakistan claimed to have arrested an Indian pilot who, India also has admitted, is missing.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan said that they are ready to talk about terrorism and that better sense should prevail this time around.

PM Khan also said that all wars in history have been miscalculated and those who started them thought it would get over soon but that’s not what happened.

“All wars in world history have been miscalculated; those who started the wars did not know where it will end. So, I want to ask India, with the weapons you and we have, can we afford miscalculation?” he said.

Earlier the Government of India said that Pakistan had responded to its “counter-terrorism action” by using its Air Force to target Indian military installations, but the attempts were foiled.

“The Pakistan Air Force was detected and the Indian Air Force responded instantly. In that aerial engagement, one Pakistan Air Force fighter aircraft was shot down by a MiG 21 Bison of the Indian Air Force. The Pakistani aircraft was seen by ground forces falling from the sky on the Pakistan side. In this engagement, we have unfortunately lost one MiG 21. The pilot is missing in action. Pakistan has claimed that he is in their custody. We are ascertaining the facts,” said Foreign Ministry spokesperson Raveesh Kumar, addressing the media alongside Air Vice Marshal RGK Kapur.
