India & Iran To Celebrate ‘Chabahar Day’ To Showcase Business Prospects
New Delhi: India and Iran will celebrate ‘Chabahar Day’ on February 26 to showcase the vast business potential of the strategic port the proposed economic zone that presents a stark contrast to Pakistan’s Gwadar Port, which China hopes to build as a military facility. The mega event, scheduled to be held in Iran’s Chabahar port, has been operated by India.
At the event, a senior Indian official will lead a delegation comprising of business delegates, among others, at the day-long event which will also see the participation of Afghanistan, Central Asian nations and Russia.
Iran will make a presentation on the prospects of the port to the visiting delegates. For Tehran, the event is an opportunity for businessmen, traders, freight companies, and national and international liners from various countries.
Notably, Chabahar Port is India’s key link to Afghanistan and Eurasia. It became operational for transit to Kabul following a tripartite agreement between India, Afghanistan and Iran. India Ports Global Limited, operating from the Shahid Beheshti terminal, had opened an office at the Chabahar Port in December last year.
Besides, India is also developing the 500-km-long Chabahar-Zahedan railway link that will connect Afghanistan’s Zaranj-Delaram road with Chabahar Port in Iran, bridging the gap between the two nations.
