Canberra: In a shocking incident, a helicopter crashed into the roof of a hotel in Australia claiming the pilot’s life and forcing to evacuate hundreds of guests. The incident occurred at a hotel named Hilton’s Double Tree Hotel in the popular northern Australian tourist town of Cairns.
According to reports, the emergency crew received a call at around 2 am Monday local time (9.30 pm IST on Sunday) after the win-engine helicopter collided with the hotel roof. The crash led to fire on top of the building and triggering evacuations. The pilot of the helicopter died on the spot.
On receiving information police rushed to the spot and initiated a probe into the matter. Meanwhile, no people on the ground were injured in the incident.
Reportedly, two of the helicopter’s rotor blades came off and one landed in the hotel pool. Further investigation into the matter is underway. More details awaited.
The incident has come days after nearly 62 people were killed in a plane crash in Brazil. It is worth mentioning here that a plane with 62 people aboard crashed in a fiery wreck in a residential area of a city in Brazil’s Sao Paulo state on Friday.
The aircraft crashed in Vinhedo in Sao Paulo state and reportedly fell into a residential area. Officials said that one home in the local condominium complex was damaged.
