Emily Calandrelli becomes 100th woman in space, read her inspiring story

Emily Calandrelli is one of the pioneers in the space industry. She recently broke history by becoming the 100th woman to go into space by flying on the latest human spaceflight by Blue Origin.

Emily’s interest in space and science started at a very young age. She graduated with a degree in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering from West Virginia University. She then furthered her education by getting a Master’s in Aeronautics and Astronautics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

Emily is both an engineer, by profession and a science communicator. Her work appears as a Netflix series called Emily’s Wonder Lab, making complexity in the sciences simple through fun. In books, there are several book series which featured in the New York Times as number one.

Emily has a passion for inspiring young girls and women of color into science, technology, engineering, and math. She feels that science, technology, engineering, and math should be open to all.

Even so, though, some criticized her for being emotional about something that shouldn’t mean a thing to her-being the 100th woman to venture into space. This was a landmark and significant enough to inspire young girls and women around the world.

Replying to the trolls, she shared a powerful message. She said, “I refuse to give much time to the small men on the internet. I feel experiences in my soul.” She added, “I will not apologize or feel weird about my reaction. It’s wholly mine and I love it. When I can, I’ll reshare it myself with all of you.”
