Electric vehicle eJLTV for Army and Navy! Will not require charging for operational purposes

Defence is one of the key aspects of a particular country as it provides security to the whole country. Every country in this world tries its best to strengthen its defence system. In order to strengthen its Army and Marine Corps, the United States of America is expected to induce first-ever silent drive hybrid-electric Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (eJLTV). The eJLTV can be driven without a requirement to charge it. Not only that, the vehicle can be used as a generator too.

This eJLTV will be manufactured by Oshkosh Defense, which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Oshkosh Corporation. For those who are unknown, Oshkosh Corporation specialises in building Automotive and Arms, and offers its services across the World.  The eJLTV can be operated for a period of 30 minutes on electricity (silent drive mode) apart from its regular mode (on fuel). This will be very useful as it gives an additional backup to the fuel engine.

The lithium-ion battery can be fully charged in a time span of 30 minutes while the vehicle is in use. This means there is no requirement for a charging infrastructure for the vehicle. The vehicle will be able to export up to 115 kW of power and can be used as a generator. The batteries in the eJLTV are expected to have a capacity of 30 kilowatt hours and can be used for a period of 10 years.

The new hybrid configuration gives an additional weight of 1000 pounds (453 kg) to the previous weight of the original JLTV. However, Oshkosh Defense clarified that the physical dimensions and transportability remain unaffected.

One of the other important aspects of the eJLTV is that it offers an enhanced fuel economy of more than 20 percent. Even though the Oshkosh eJLTV is a utilitarian defense vehicle, the combat abilities of the vehicle remain the same. The company has unveiled the upcoming vehicle on January 25. The vehicle retains the performance and protection offered by the Oshkosh Defense JLTV.
