Earthquake of magnitude 6 hits Afghanistan, at least 255 killed

At least 255 people in Afghanistan have lost their lives after a severe earthquake of 6.1 magnitude hit the country on June 22.

The earthquake has severely shook four districts of Paktika province in the country while the tremor was also felt across parts in Pakistan.

Bilal Karimi, Deputy spokesman for the Taliban government, wrote on his Twitter handle,“A severe earthquake shook four districts of Paktika province, killing and injuring hundreds of our countrymen and destroying dozens of houses.”

The EMSC (European Mediterranean Seismological Centre) mentioned that the quake was felt by the people in Pakistan and India as well. However, no loss of life and property in both the countries has been reported yet.
